Doubts over importation of  'coriander containers' ; probe underway

Authorities have instructed to re-export the recently seized containers of agro-plant waste back to its origin.

The containers had been imported from Ukraine declaring them as 'coriander'.

Dr. W.A.R.T. Wickramaarachchi of the National Plant Quarantine Service said that the samples of the stock was a mix of 10-15 plant varieties and the purpose of importing this could be Ayurveda-related. He added that it was harmful as pieces of wood were also included in the samples.

Meanwhile, media spokesperson of the Customs, Sunil Jayaratne says that the 08 persons who had imported the stock are being questioned.
