Tsunami warning tower collapsed in KKS? (Pics)

Residents of Kankesanthurai, Jaffna say that a tsunami warning tower in the coastal region has collapsed due to prevailing wind and rain.

Photos of pieces which are said to be parts of a collapsed tower have been uploaded to social media.

Upon inquiring of this 'Disaster Management Center' via a phone call, 'Sri Lanka Mirror' was told that nothing under their control in their region has collapsed.

Tsunami warning towers were installed in the country, following the 2004 'Boxing Day Tsunami'.

December 26, 2020 marks 16 years since the tragic incident, which wreaked havoc across the Indian Ocean, claiming the lives of an estimated 227,898 people in 14 countries. The disaster was also marked as one of the deadliest natural disasters in the 21st century.
