IGP self-isolated

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandana Wickramaratne has not attended the security council meeting yesterday (08) which was presided by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The IGP had been absent as he and his staff had been placed in self- quarantine since Monday (07), soon after his driver was tested Covid-19 positive.

Sources from the police HQ also report that officers from other units have been restricted from visiting the IGP’s office.

The police HQ has been disinfected while distancing has been strictly enforced during work.

Meanwhile, officers attached to the Intelligence Unit office under the purview of the IGP located at Malalasekara Mawatha in Colombo, have also been placed in self-quarantine after a Covid-19 case was detected from the office.

Only 3 infected at HQ - police

Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesman - DIG Ajith Rohana has refuted reports claiming that 150 policemen of the Police Headquarters have tested positive for Covid-19.

Noting that a front page news of a prominent newspaper which claimed as such was false, the DIG has stated that only 03 officers at the headquarters have tested positive and that they are being treated at Police Covid-19 treatment centres.
