Wildlife officers launch island wide token strike

Wildlife officers have launched an island wide token strike today.

Chairman of the All Ceylon Joint Wildlife Officers’ Association Prabash Karunathilake said the protest is against alleged attempts by State Minister of Wildlife Protection Wimalaweera Dissanayake to allow illegal activity within a forest reserve in Polonnaruwa.

Karunathilake added if cattle are allowed into the reserve, the human-elephant conflict in the Polonnaruwa District would aggravate.

He noted wildlife officers sought to patiently resolve the issue through discussions adding however since a meeting was not allowed thus far, trade union action will be launched today.
