An individual who was traveling in the Kilinochchi district has been identified as a Covid-19 patient yesterday (23). A PCR test conducted on the 72-year-old resident of Kilinochchi displaying Covid-19 symptoms was found to be positive.
Schools in the Kilinochchi District were reopened for the third term yesterday (23) following the onset of the second wave of Covid-19.
However, the Kilinochchi Health Department said that the decision was taken after information on the places that the infected person had traveled were noted.
Meanwhile, speaking at a media briefing earlier today, secretary to the Ministry of Education Prof. Kapila Perera said that no schools will be allowed to re-open until approval has been given by an area health official.
The Education Secretary also stressed that strict protocols will be followed when reopening schools in areas that are currently under lockdown. Rs.480 million have been distributed amongst 10,165 schools across the country, he noted.
