Basil's travel ban lifted

The Colombo High Court has instructed authorities to lift the travel ban imposed on Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa in relation to the case filed over the alleged financial misappropriation of Divi Naguma funds.

High Court Judge R Gurusinghe also instructed authorities to annul the order issued on Basil Rajapaksa who had been directed by court to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department at least once in three months.

The Attorney General filed the case against four persons including former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa for allegedly misappropriating Rs.2.99 billion of funds belonging to Divi Neguma Department while distributing roofing sheets among Divi Neguma beneficiaries during the previous Presidential Election.

Presenting written submissions, the defence has requested court to acquit the defenders of the case without a hearing.

The case will be taken up once again on Wednesday (25).
