"When considering the situation in the police, a new cluster has been created within it," DIG Ajith Rohana had said during a TV programme today (02).
He further said : "It had not been created by police officers on duty. It had come to existence through mess controllers of the police and STF who had gone to the Peliyagoda fish market. However, all of them have been directed to Quarantine Centres and barracks for self-quarantine. The closest contacts of the affected STF personnel have been sent to QCs while others are being quarantined in 03 camps - Kelaniya, Rajagiriya and Kalubowila. The number stood at 135 cases this morning,"
More affected at Borella police
Meanwhile, 08 more police officers at the Borella Police have been identified as Covid-19 cases.
According to the police, 8 out of 10 PCR tests carried out on the day before yesterday have tested positive, increasing the total number at the station to 14.
So far, more than 130 police officers have been identified as Covid-19 cases.
235 female police officers in Colombo quarantined
Meanwhile, 235 women officers at the women’s barracks on Malalasekera Mawatha in Colombo were placed under self-quarantine.
This is due to the fact that two persons, including a female police officer from the Colombo Crimes Division in Dematagoda, were tested as Covid-19 positive.
