Covid-19 : SL crosses 7,000 mark, recording new daily high

Sri Lanka has passed the 7,000 mark of Covid-19 cases after detecting another 256 new patients related to the Divulapitiya- Peliyagoda cluster.

The Department of Government Information says that 39 of them are from the Peliyagoda Fish Market and 217 are contacts.

Accordingly, the number of cases detected today has increased to 865, which is the highest number of cases recorded in a day. The previous daily high was recorded in early July with 739 cases.

The total number of cases found so far has increased to 7,153.

The Divulapitiya cluster has also increased to 3,682.

According to the Epidemiology Unit's situation report as at 22:00 today (23), there are 3495 individuals currently under medical care, 3644 recovered cases and 14 fatalities.

Earlier, quarantine curfew was imposed on several more areas while several Grama Niladhari areas were declared as isolated zones.
