Covid-19 outbreak affects around 800,000 factory workers! Featured

The spread of the Covid-19 second wave in Sri Lanka has affected around 800,000 factory workers working in around 30,000 factories in the Gampaha district, reports say.

The majority of these factories are located in the electorates of Minuwangoda and Divulapitiya, where the outbreak was initially reported from.

The electorates of Divulapitiya and Minuwangoda are home to 4,012 and 2,833 factories respectively, bringing the total to 6,845.

Among them are a considerable number of factories manufacturing textile, apparel and leather goods. There are 846 such factories in Minuwangoda while 756 in Divulapitiya.
