Russian national tests negative?

A PCR test done at the Hambantota Hospital has confirmed that the Russian national who was earlier identified as Covid-19 positive, has not contracted the virus.

Nevertheless the director of the Hambantota Hospital had stated that a 2nd PCR test will be conducted to confirm the results.

A group of 15 Russian airline staff arrived in the island on the 13th of September and checked into a tourist hotel in Polhena, Matara.

The group were due to leave the island this week,  had recently undergone PCR tests at a private hospital in Matara, but the results of one person had come out as positive.

Meanwhile the Public Health Inspectors Union of Sri Lanka charged that the group of Russians had failed to inform PHI’s and health authorities in the area before staying at the hotel in Pohena, Matara.

Also, the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health says staff employed at the hotel. had not stringently observing health safety protocols.

Speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (24), Director of the Epidemiology Unit Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said certain staff had shown complete disregard for health safety measures by returning to their homes.

Dr. Samaraweera said all staff and their families have accordingly been directed to quarantine centres at present and PCR tests would be conducted on all of them.
