Anawilundawa destroyed by politician's brother  Featured

It has now been revealed that a brother of a politician is involved in the destruction of a part of the Anawilundawa Wetland Sanctuary in Puttalam using dozers.

It is said that this person who is involved in local government politics is a former chairman of a certain council.

This local government politician has been charged with a number of offenses, including attempting to assault a government official.

The Anawilundawa ecosystem has been declared a sanctuary under wildlife regulations and a wetland system under the Ramsar Convention.

The Puttalam Assistant Wildlife Office had submitted a report to the government last Friday regarding this matter.

Puttalam Assistant Director of Wildlife Eranda Gamage has told the media that the incident is being investigated.

The dozer operator has been identified and arrested.

However, it is reported that the suspect who is responsible for this task has not yet been arrested.
