It is said that the Army has taken this measure after it was revealed that a journalist and an underworld member had transported a stock of firearms to Colombo during the Covid-19 afflicted period. Later, it was also revealed that several military personnel were also involved in this racket and that some firearms at army camps had disappeared since the end of the war.

The CID has arrested several military personnel in this regard while four more military personnel are being detained by the Army police for questioning.
