Sports Council at standstill: Mahela in Dubai for 3 months Featured

Former Sri Lanka Cricket captain Mahela Jayawardene has left for the United Arab Emirates yesterday (21) to participate in this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) in Dubai.

During the tournament Mahela will be coaching Mumbai Indians and that will be for the fourth consecutive year.

Last year's IPL trophy was won by Mumbai Indians.

Meanwhile, Muttiah Muralitharan, the bowling advisor for Sunrisers Hyderabad, is scheduled to leave for the United Arab Emirates on September 4.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) starts on September 19 and ends on November 8.

Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa appointed Mahela Jayawardene as the Chairman of the National Sports Council on August 20 and due to his presence at the IPL Mahela will not be able to directly involve in the activities of the council for 3 months until November 8.
