According to government sources, the provincial council elections will be held in the first quarter of 2021.

The need to present the Budget and the need to hold the GCE O/L and A/L exams this year are said to be the reasons behind the postponement.

At a recent meeting with candidates who had failed to secure seats at the recently concluded General Election, Mr. Wickremesinghe had said that a new mechanism was being set up for the PC polls and the youth should take up leadership.
