The Nikini Poya, which is the full moon day of the month of August, marks the first Dhamma Sangayana of Buddhist monks.
Meanwhile, the final Randoli Perahera in Kandy and the Esala Perahera in Kataragama will also take to the streets today.
The final Randoli Perahera in Kandy will commence from 7.14pm and will draw to a close tomorrow following the water cutting ceremony and the Day Perahera.
Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela said the final Randoli Perahera will parade along the Dalada Veediya, Yatinuwara Veediya, Kande Veediya, DS Senanayake Veediya and will return to the Temple of Tooth Relic via the Raja Veediya.
Special security measures are in place in Kandy with around 3,000 police officers deployed for duty.
