Vendors barred from selling wares on buses

The Ministry of Transport Services Management has advised the National Transport Commission and the Sri Lanka Transport Board to prevent persons selling goods from boarding buses owing to the threat of COVID-19.

The Ministry said complaints have been lodged of such mobile vendors not adhering to health guidelines that have been issued to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The Transport Ministry added such vendors board numerous buses daily adding that they pose a risk to public health owing to the failure in following guidelines.

Sri Lanka Railways in March banned vendors from boarding trains as a precautionary measure.

Accordingly, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has issued directives to ensure the same is followed in buses.

The Minister also called for the support of officers and security forces to be sought in preventing vendors from boarding buses.
