Wilpattu case : Verdict on July 31

The verdict on the writ application filed against former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and several others over the unauthorised construction of houses in Wilpattu, is to be delivered on July 31.

The relevant decision was taken when the case was taken up at the Supreme Court today (24).

The writ petition, filed by the Centre for Environmental Justice (CEJ), seeks an order to quash the clearing of the Wilpattu National Park forest reserve and construction of a housing project adjoining the National Park.

Conservator General of the Forest Conservation Department, Central Environmental Authority (CEA), Director General of Wildlife Department, Commissioner General of Lands, Commissioner General of Archeological Department, Mannar District Secretary, former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of Environment and Mahaweli Development and the Attorney General have been named as respondents.
