Next time we will check with him before reacting - Mahela Featured

Former cricket Mahela Jayawardena has responded to recent comments made by former chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and former Sports minister - Mahindananda Aluthgamage.

Last week, Aluthgamage stated that match fixing had taken place during the 2011 World Cup final played between Sri Lanka and India at the Wankade Stadium.

His comments had caused an uproar in social media with many netizens including Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardena, (who were the captain and vice captain back then), tweeting on the issue.

In response Aluthgamage had said, "I don't understand why Sanga and Mahela are making a big deal about this. I am not referring to any of our players."

In addition, speaking at a media briefing of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna yesterday (20), SLPP General Election contestant  and former chief of the SLC - Thilanga Sumathipala said he finds questionable as to why Sri Lankan cricket players are worried over Aluthgamage's comments on match fixing in 2011 World Cup Finals, if they are not involved in it.

"If the players are not involved in it - the match fixing - why are they anxious about it? If they are not involved in it, that statement will follow the necessary procedure. It is better to be patient without being panicked and tweeting about it," he had stated.

In response to both Aluthgamage and Sumathipala, Mahela had tweeted the following :
