Speaking to media he has stated that the lands around Narahenpita junction are inherited lands belonging to his wife's father and well known social worker Don Aaron Appuhamy and Don Dionis Appuhamy are grandfathers of his wife's father. He has said that the Abhyarama temple in Narahenpita is built on a land donate by her wife's great grandfather. 

He says he and his wife are not involved in the business of his father-in-law and that they still live in a rented house.

Herath said the reports that he had acquired the land,in which his housing complex is located, in 2015 were completely false.
