SIS officer was hit by relation of a minister?

The sister of the deceased police constable who died in a Defender related accident in Thummulla recently, says that a relative of a minister was responsible for the accident.

Tarinda Ratwatte, a 24-year-old law student has been arrested over the accident and remanded until today (15).

The accident had killed Police Constable Sithum Alahapperuma attached to the State Intelligence Services, who foiled the Rs.7.9 million robbery at the National Hospital a few days ago.

He had been receiving treatment at the ICU of the National Hospital following the incident on June 11.

Police say the driver of the Defender had been under the influence of liquor at the time of the accident.

Speaking to media, police spokesman SP Jaliya Senaratne said that facts such as politics and relations are irrelevant to investigations which will be done impartially.
