CaFFE has made the complaint in a letter addressed to the chairman of the Election Commission.
The letter notes that the SLBC is promoting Mr. Rajapaksa in a series of programmes marking the 50 years of his political career and such a programme was broadcast by the SLBC's Muslim Service today (14).
Noting that this is a misuse of state property, CaFFE urges the Chairman of the EC to take measures on this regard.
The letter is shown below.
However, this allegation comes despite President Gotabaya Rajapaksa having recently warned state institutes not to engage in political activities in favor of any political party during the upcoming General Election.
“If any Head or Board member wishes to extend his or her support to any political party, they are free to do so after rendering formal resignation from the current position,” president Rajapaksa had said.
The President expects Heads and officials of State organizations to develop their organizations into effective, corruption-free, productive, disciplined, and profit-making entities.
“State organizations are run with public money. They should not be a burden to the people,” he has said.
