Poson Poya today

Buddhists celebrate the Poson Poya today (05), which marks the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka in the 3rd century BC.

Therefore, in Sri Lanka, Poson is considered the most important full moon Poya holiday of the year after Vesak.

This year's National Poson Week is held from the 2nd to the 8th of June.

The state festival is held from Mihintale in Anuradhapura, where Arahath Mahinda Thero preached Buddhism to King Devanampiyatissa, after bringing Buddhism to the country.

This year, the national festival is commemorated with a limited number of people, and under the theme ‘Arogya Parama Sabha’, adhering to strict health guidelines.

The state festival commenced yesterday (04) and was attended by a host of VIPs including president Gotabaya Rajapaksa and PM Mahinda Rajapaksa.
