The suggestion has been tabled during a discussion with Basil Rajapaksa, Chairman of the task force on prevention of COVID-19 outbreak, the Secretary to the Prime Minister, Gamini Senarath and pandal creators.
During the meeting number of leading Buddhist organizations that build pandals during the Vesak and Poson period have sought relief from the Task Force.
The pandal organizers have said that during the Vesak and Poson period 30 main pandals are built in the island and a pandal will cost Rs. 2 million.
It is also reported that,during the discussion it has been agreed to provide bank loans and other facilities to these creators.
However, Sri Lanka Mirror's recent inquiries revealed that it has been difficult to obtain bank loans and other facilities from the banks, which were instructed by the government to assist medium and small enterprises.
The majority have not received the six-month concession on leasing as well. It is reported that many leasing companies have refused to offer this concession to customers who have been in arrears for months.
