Rs. 900 b economic loss to Sri Lanka due to COVID-19 Featured

Moody's Investors Service estimates that the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on various sectors of the Sri Lankan economy is estimated to be around Rs 900 billion in 2020.

It is said to be close to 6% of the projected GDP in 2020.

The World Bank estimates that Covid-19 damage to the entire world economy is  $ 900 billion.

The damage is said to be more than the total value of the economies of Germany and Japan.

Economist Mervyn Fernando speaking to Silumina has told that another estimate is that this pandemic will cause a 3% negative growth in the world economy and a 0.5% negative growth in the Sri Lankan economy.
