'Will repatriate students in S. Asia first'

Additional Secretary to the President on Foreign Relations Admiral Jayanath Colombage said that among nearly 60,000 Sri Lankans who have requested to return to the country, students in the South Asian region would be repatriated first.

Speaking to the 'Sathi Aga Aruna', weekly newspaper, he had said that plans on this regard have already been formulated,together with the coordination of the national carrier - SriLankan airlines.

He has revealed that it is also being considered to reach destinations that aren't usually reached by SriLankan airlines as countries such as India have completely stopped air travel.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs state that 59,419 Sri Lankans stranded in countries due to the Covid-19 epidemic have registered with them so far.

Out of them, 21,575 are working in the Middle East, the ministry adds.
