32 orgs. oppose 'state repression' Featured

Thirty two civil organisations and Trade Unions have charged that the government is attempting to curtail the freedom of expression under the guise of anti-Covid-19 measures.

On April 12, the organisations have directed a letter to president Gotabaya Rajapaksa on this regard.

In the letter, they have opposed several incidents such as a person being arrested in Doluwa, Gampaha, on April 09 for allegedly organising a protest, arresting persons expressing ideas on social media and the panic arising among public due to such arrests.

They note that other countries while have overcome Covid-19 more successfully than Sri Lanka have not undertaken such repressive actions.
