Apparel industry will be safeguarded-Dinesh

Minister Dinesh Gunawardena says the government has taken steps to safeguard the apparel industry and its employees amidst the impact the spread of COVID-19 has had on the country’s economy.

The Minister made these remarks during a meeting at the Ministry of Labour with the Apparel Manufacturing Federation, the Employers Federation, representatives of trade unions and officials of the Ministry of Labour.

The Minister noted representatives had paid employees their March salaries, whilst they had also agreed to provide employees the April salary and festival allowances, despite the complete suspension of production.

Meanwhile the Minister stated that the government will protect the Employees Provident Fund, adding that the government will not dilute the funds of millions.
