Ravi K. attacked by own paper Featured

Political circles are agog with yesterday’s (05) issue of ‘Irudina’ having carried a front-page main headline article to the effect that a powerful minister was demanding the auditor general immediately provided him with a report into the Central Bank bond sales.

The newspaper, owned by finance minister Ravi Karunanayake and Arjun Aloysius, who owns Perpetual Treasuries that is implicated in the bond issue, has attacked Karunanayake, its owner, in this manner.

The report says the AG was under pressure for having submitted the report he has prepared to the speaker of parliament and the attorney general only.

Meanwhile, the ‘Irudina’ editorial has not been paid for the past two months.

However, Aloysius has spent a massive sum of money and paid the salaries of the staff of a newspaper he is going to start.

He is also under attack by Anti-Corruption Front, whose convener Wasantha Samarasinghe accuses him of not paying Rs. 840 million taxes due to the state by last month in lieu of W.M. Mendis alcohol company which he has bought.

Given below is the front-page of yesterday’s issue of ‘Irudina’:
