At a meeting at the health ministry, Senaratne said there was no truth to speculations in that regard.
He also stressed the government did not need to interfere with the judiary, which was independent now.
MP Padmashantha Gunasekara of the NFF told the media on January 31 that the government was planning to imprison Mahinda Rajapaksa, Wimal Weerawansa and other leaders of the joint opposition and deprive their civic rights for seven years.

If they are sent to prison, they will be released in around 2021-22, and by 2025 the ex-president would be 82 years old, and everybody knows where he would be by that age, said Gunasekara.
This is the latest theory of prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the MP said, adding that they would not be scared by his antic, as they had not feared his Batalanda torture chamber either.
