Govt. announces relief measures for public

The government has decided to reserve Rs. 03 billion with regard to the losses faced by Tea smallholders in the country.

Speaking at a media briefing to announce cabinet decisions, Co-cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardane also said that another Rs. 03 billion has been reserved to pay the arrears amounts due to fertilizer suppliers.

He assured that no fertilizer shortage will take place.

6-month debt moratorium only applies to 5 sectors

The 6-month debt moratorium announced for businesses will only be applicable to the most adversely affected five sectors of the economy, minister Gunawardane said.

Accordingly, Apparel Exports, Tourism, Information Technology, Foreign Employment, and Small Enterprises will be eligible for this debt moratorium.

The government has also requested the banks to provide working capital loans to these businesses at 4 percent interest.

More cabinet decisions would be announced tomorrow, the minister said, adding that it has been decided to announce several cabinet decisions each day.
