PM assures no military personnel to Customs Featured

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had given an assurance to the Administrative Services Association that the appointment of a retired Major General by the government to the post of Customs Director General would be suspended.

The Prime Minister had given this assurance when a group of Administrative Services Association members had met the Prime Minister at the Parliament complex yesterday.

The Administrative Services officers had raised serious objections in appointing a retired military officer to this post which is a Sri Lanka Administrative Services Special Grade position.

They have pointed out that this appointment is a complete violation of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s election pledge to give suitable officers suitable positions.

Therefore, the Prime Minister had stated that the government need not unnecessarily get into a clash with unions over this incident when the election is just around the corner and had assured the Administrative Service officers that this appointment would be suspended.
