Underworld gangsters in trouble, prison under STF! Featured

Plans are underway to build a prison complex to house notorious criminals under Special Task Force (STF) security, according to Defence Ministry sources.

The main purpose is to transfer around 130 notorious prisoners currently housed at Welikada and other prisons to this new facility.

It is also reported that Defence Secretary Major General (rtd) Kamal Gunaratne, Acting IGP C.D. Wickramaratne and other senior police officers had inspected several locations for the establishment of this prison.

They had initially inspected the Angunakolapelessa prison, but had determined that it was not suitable for this purpose.

Thereafter, they had visited Boossa and had decided to house the 130 hard-core criminals there. Currently, there are another 22 hard-core criminals housed at this prison as well.

Among them are Wele Suda, Kanjipani Imran and Potta Nauffer, according to prison sources.

It was also revealed that there are 150 prison cells at Boossa which could house these prisoners. Accordingly, the Defence Ministry sources added that after renovations are carried out measures would be taken to transfer the 130 hard-core criminals to Boossa.
