Machines to detect pesticides in food, idles at Standards Institute for two years

Three machines capable of detecting pesticides and other matter in food items which was imported by the Standards Institute two years ago at a cost of Rs. 24.61 million is left idling without being made use of.

Although the Gas Chromatography mass spectrophotometer Gc/ms-ms was purchased on November 12, 2017, it has been left without being used as there is no suitable laboratory for it to be installed, the audit had revealed.

In addition, the staff have also not been trained in operating this equipment, it is reported.
