Basil reflects on impermanence of power Featured

A Facebook by Basil Rajapaksa - founder and national organiser of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), posted ahead of his arrival in Sri Lanka, has created ripples in the political arena.

The message in Sinhala reads, "Power is temporary ... Humanity is eternal ...Let us  secure the future of motherland with a prosperous vision".

Also media reports have cited a cold war between the President and the Prime Minister, these claims were refuted when 'Sri Lanka Mirror' made inquiries from close aides of both sides.

Some said that such a 'hostility' was imagined by some after certain demands of allies were not met.

However, the election commission's legal director Nimal Punchihewa says that it is possible to dissolve parliament after February 28.

Accordingly, all government and opposition political parties believe that the general election will be held at the end of April.

Meanwhile, it is reported that even though the governing party will form an alliance at the next general election, the symbol  will not be changed.

Accordingly, the government will be contesting under the symbol of the lotus bud.

Sources of the SLPP say that Basil Rajapaksa, will be appointed as the General Secretary of the alliance, and had had returned to Sri Lanka yesterday because of this reason.
