Power cuts from next month? Featured

Due to the stoppage of fuel from Petroleum Corporation and the aggravation of the drought, there is a probability of power cuts being imposed from next month, according to CEB internal sources.

Currently, due to the severe heat experienced the daily electricity demand has risen from 450 megawatts to 500 megawatts and the CEB engineers warn that as a result power cuts for a few hours per day would have to be imposed within the next few weeks.

As power stations cannot be established in a hurry, if power supply is to be continued without any interruption, power would have to be purchased from the private sector at competitive prices.

Currently, to meet the daily power demand, hydro power generation has been increased by 10 percent.
