However, this demand from the Sajith faction is said to be aimed at not giving him nominations at the upcoming general election.
The seniors of the party however, have rejected this request stating that in any case Mangala has no intention of contesting the upcoming election and that no action should be taken to tarnish his reputation.
Meanwhile, the Tilak Marapone Committee has already decided that Ranjan Ramanayake had behaved in a manner that insulted the Maha Sangha and therefore, his nomination has been rejected, Ramanayake told the media.
However, Ramanayake said that in the event he does not receive nominations from the UNF, he would contest the upcoming election as an independent candidate.
Former MP who claimed fake consensus in trouble
During a meeting of UNP seniors held at Sirikotha under the patronage of Ranil Wickremesinghe, it was determined that Ranjan Ramanayake’s insults targeting the Maha Sangha was a reason for the party to lost Sinhala Buddhist votes.
Further, Sajith Premadasa inviting Ranjan Ramanayake on stage and claiming that he would be given a ministerial post to net in rogues, is also considered to be a reason for the UNP to lose its vote base.
It was also determined that Premadasa’s actions claiming that Sarath Fonseka would be made Defence Minister is also another reason which led to the defeat of the party.
Meanwhile, the UNP was hoodwinked and given false hope that they would win by a 58% margin by a company owned by a state minister and this topic too was discussed at the party seniors meeting.
They had therefore, taken the decision to call for explanation from this state minister regarding this matter as well.
