6 SL athletes sit O/L exams at Kathmandu

Six athletes from the Sri Lanka team competing at the South Asian Games are sitting for the G.C.E. Ordinary level examination at the Sri Lanka embassy in Kathmandu.

The exams are being conducted by two examiners from the Department of Examination.

Chathuni Bhagya and Chamudhi Prathiba competing in fencing sports are from Princess of Wales College while Yehani Kuruppu and Ganga Seneviratne from Visakha Vidyalaya compete in squash and swimming. In addition, Ayela Chitti (Table Tennis) and Alana Seneviratne (Tennis) are from Ladies College.

Speaking to media, general secretary of the National Olympics committee of Sri Lanka - Maxwell de Silva had said, “We believe education is most important while engaging in sports. When the Asian Games was last held one athlete did his Advance Level examination in Jakarta,” he said, adding his thanks to the Sri Lankan ambassador for his assistance.

At the moment, Sri Lanka is placed third in the SAG medals table with two gold, four silver and nine bronze medals.
