Sajith’s Opposition Leader drams foiled! Featured

The proposal submitted requesting Sajith Premadasa to be appointed as the Opposition Leader is most likely to be dismissed in parliament for lack of legitimacy.

It is reported that this proposal has been made by a group of MPs and not backed up by an accepted political party. Hence, there is no power in this request.

This request to make Sajith Premadasa the Opposition Leader is similar to the request made previously by around 70 MPs of the Joint Opposition requesting the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to recognize them as a separate group in parliament.

Therefore, it is most likely that this proposal would not be taken up in parliament.

It is reported that only the proposal submitted by the General Secretary of the UNP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam requesting Ranil Wickremesinghe to be appointed as the Opposition Leader will be taken up in parliament.
