Gotabaya acquitted over memorial museum case

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been acquitted by the Special High Court from a misappropriation case concerning the D A Rajapaksa memorial museum today (Nov 21).
During today’s hearing Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peris, appearing for the accused told court that a case could not be filed against an Executive President.

Accordingly, the Special High Court ordered to clear the defendant of all charges over the case.

Rajapaksa, along with six others had been accused of misappropriating state funds worth Rs 33.9 million in the construction of the museum.

A court ruling pertaining to the other suspects will be issued in due course.
