The reason that these presidential candidates have lost their deposits is due to their failure to obtain at least 5% of the valid votes.
Only the SLPP presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa (52.25%) and the NDF presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa (41.99%) were able to obtain over 5% of the total number of valid votes.
Even Anura obtained only 3.16%
The third highest votes at the presidential election was obtained by the Jathika Jana Balawegaya presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake, but as he obtained only 3.16% of the total number of valid votes, he too lost his deposit.
The candidates contesting the presidential election under a recognized political party is required to make a deposit of Rs. 50,000 and any independent candidate is required to make a deposit of Rs, 75,000.
