Addressing a special media conference at the Election Commission in Rajagiriya yesterday (16), he said these letters had been sent to a Commissioner in the Uva Province.
He added that there are five candidates who are definitely supporting one particular candidate and there are three other candidates supporting another candidate. There are also two other candidates who are indirectly supporting a particular candidate.
The Election Commissioner also revealed that some candidates had been witnesses during the signing of agreements between other parties.
Press briefings at ministerial official residences suspended
Meanwhile, it is reported that the Election Commission has notified political parties to refrain from holding press conferences at ministerial official residences.
The Association for the protection of the SLFP had organised a media briefing at Minister Mangala Samaraweera’s residence and this order was issued by the Elections Commission based on complaints lodged with them regarding such media briefings.
According to the Election Commission directive, the media had been notified that the said media briefing by the Association for the protection of the SLFP has been rescheduled to be held at another location in Rajagiriya.
