In response to a statement by President Maithripala Sirisena pertaining to judicial appointments, Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe stressed he has not directed any recommendations to the President pertaining to the appointment of Supreme Court judges.
The Prime Minister said according to the Constitution only the Chief Justice and the Attorney General can make recommendations to the President pertaining to the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court.
Accordingly, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe rejected a purported claim made by the President pertaining to a recommendation made to appoint Solicitor General Dilrukshi Dias Wickremesinghe to the Supreme Court.
The Premier is also of the stance that the statement by the former Director General of the Bribery Commission Dilrukshi Wickremesinghe should be investigated.
Premier Wickremesinghe added the Attorney General referred the Former Bribery Commissioner’s statement to the Public Service Commission.
The Prime Minister said all details and persons linked to the matter should be exposed to the public following a thorough inquiry.Premier Wickremesinghe added Dilrukshi Dias was never part of the team working at Temple Trees.
Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe in his statement claimed that he is unaware of the motive of President Maithripala Sirisena to level baseless allegations at him.
The Prime Minister added all concerns, if any against him or the Cabinet of Ministers should be raised privately or during Cabinet Meetings.The Premier said the President’s public outcry goes against all norms of a democratic governing structure.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe also said he will not come forward to respond to any allegations levelled against him on a public domain.Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe said all concerned should be raised through appropriate channels.
The Prime Minister noted that within a Constitutional and democratic governance framework all persons should follow such practices.
