Landslide danger in four districts Featured

The Disaster Management Centre warned that due to the heavy rainfall experienced in the country there is a threat of landslides in the Ratnapura, Nuwaraeliya, Kegalle, and Kalutara districts.

Therefore, the DMC Assistant Director Priyantha Koddippili warned all residents living in slope areas in these districts to be vigilant.

Within the 24-hour period on Sunday the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and Wayamba provinces received a rainfall of over 150 mm.

Heavy rainfall of over 100 mm could be expected in the Uva, Eastern and North Central provinces, while during this period heavy rainfall could be experienced in the Kalutara, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya and Kegalle Districts.

The DMC also noted that in several parts of the island the low lying areas and by roads had gone under water.
