Hospital services in danger of stalling due to garbage pile-up - Anil Featured

Over 100 tons of clinical waste has been piling up in the Western, Central and Southern provinces, said the Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe.

He warned that with the onset of the rainy season this situation is showing signs of aggravating and posing a grave danger. He said that if this situation worsens, there is a danger of all health services stalling.

Cabinet approval was obtained for the construction of an incineration plant in Muthurajawela to burn this clinical waste in a safe manner, but having set it up and after a few months of operation, the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha had suspended the trade licence of the company engaged in this task. As a result this crisis has aggravated, he said.
