Woman harassed at Pamunuwa Police Featured

A group of women’s activists are preparing to lodge a complaint with the IGP today (15) regarding an assault on a woman by the Pamunuwa Police officers in the presence of a priest.

The woman who had participated in a medical camp organized by a traditional medicine association of which Rev. Dr. Sixtus Kurukulasooriya is a director had been taken to the police and assaulted with a chair, kicked and abused
in foul language.

The victim is Madhu Anne Ranaweera a journalist and indigenous medical practitioner. She is the mother of one and is currently receiving treatment at the Ragama Hospital.

In an FB post, journalist and social activist Thilina Allahakoon stated that the victim is a journalist attached to the ‘Gnanartha Predeepaya’ newspater and also a member of the Gnanartha Pradeepaya writers’ and social activist.

It is said that the p0olice is now trying to make peace with the victim through Fr. Sextus Kurukulasooriya.

Meanwhile, it is also alleged that the Pamunuwa Police officers had recorded Ann changing her clothes to come to the police.
