Petitions against Hemasiri, Pujith postponed until July 25

The petitions filed against former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and IGP Pujith Jayasundara have been postponed until July 25.

This was announced when the petitions were taken up for hearing before a seven-member judge bench at the Supreme Court.

Attorney General Dappula de Livera informed court today (Jul 12) that he would not appear for the accused during the hearing.

Petitions have been filed against Fernando and Jayasundara for their failure to prevent the terrorist attacks on April 21 despite having prior information over the attacks.

The seven-member judge bench led by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya comprises Justices Buwaneka Aluwihare, Sisira de Abrew, Priyantha Jayawardena, Prasanna Jayawardena, L.T.B. Dehideniya, and Murdu Fernando.

During today's hearing, court informed the defendants to file objections over the case on July 18 while also calling on the prosecution to submit counter-objections, if any, on July 23.
