Three youths who threatened Dambulla chief monk further remanded

Three youths who had threatened the Dambulla Rajamaha Viharaya's chief monk have been further remanded until July 17.

The suspects were arrested for attempting to extort ransom by posing as members of the proscribed National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) group.

According to the police, the incident had taken place last month.

It has been revealed that the youths had demanded a ransom of Rs 100 million via a telephone call threatening the monk.
