Thajudeen case : Indictments to be served on ex-DIG Featured

Indictments will be served on former police DIG Anura Senanayake today (Jun 27) in the case involving the killing of ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen.

The former senior police official has been issued notice to appear before the Colombo High Court in order to receive the indictment papers.

Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera had filed charges against Senanayake over allegedly providing false information in a bid to harbour the suspects involved in the killing.

The AG had stated that the suspects involved in the killing, if proven guilty, could be sentenced to death.

Mr. Senanayake, former Narahenpitiya Crimes Branch Superintendent Sumith Champika and Chief Judicial Medical Officer Prof. Ananda Samarasekara have been named as the accused in the case.

However, the AG had moved court only against the former police DIG for attempting to harbour the suspects. The case had initially been withdrawn after it was to be heard before High Court judge Anitya Patabendi.

High Court judge Vikum Kaluarachchi will hear the case which has been re-filed at the High Court.
