Divayina, journalist on Safi’s case and DIG sued under ICCPR Featured

Ravaya newspaper reports that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is likely to file a case against the journalist, who wrote an article on Dr. Mohammed Safi, Divayina newspaper and the DIG of Kurunegala.

It is said that the case is to be filed under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights Act No. 56 of 2007.

The case is to be filed based on the news published in Divayina Newspaper which stated that about 4000 women were sterilized during cesarean section at the Kurunegala Hospital which has led to Presidential Advisor Athuraliye Ratana Thero engaging in a fast, deploying about 1500 Police Officer on duty, several Ministers having to resign from their posts and racial disharmony in the country.

It is said that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) which investigated the matter on the orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has found out that Dr. Mohammed Safi has not committed such an offense.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is reportedly preparing to submit its findings to the Kurunegala Magistrate Court on the 27th of this month.
