President changed after Indian tour: Basil makes up his mind Featured

President Maithripala Sirisena has reportedly changed since his Indian tour, according to political sources.

His change was evident in the statement he made during the recent Cabinet meeting where he mentioned that he would not contest for a second term and that he would not support the Rajapaksa’s under any circumstance.

He had affirmed that he would not support the Rajapaksa’s at the next Presidential election, but had said that if the UNP contests the election under a new outlook, he would support them.

However, he had found fault with the UNP for not being prepared for the Presidential election which is just five months away. He had also notified the UNP-MPs to cast all differences aside and prepare for the Presidential elections.

It is also reported that the President had pledged the support of the SLFP-MPs and himself if the UNP leadership is given to Sajith Premadasa.

Basil makes up his mind!

Meanwhile, the SLPP Founder Basil Rajapaksa is said to be engaging in organising the party’s election campaign for Gotabhaya Rajapaksa without opposing it as it is the sincere wish and request of the people.

Therefore, he is said to be in discussion with the smaller parties within the coalition in order to obtain their support for the Presidential election.

Meanwhile, in response to the statement by the President, Basil Rajapaksa had posted on his FB page that on December 09th an SLPP candidate would definitely be sworn in as President.
